September 14th-16th served as the second year for the West Kentucky Highland Festival and Games to be held in Murray, KY. Unfortunately due to a home football game (Murray State), an incredibly large automobile auction, a separate concert by Albannach and the Highland Games hotel rooms filled up. This caused some to stay home who originally wanted to be there. However, there were several who booked early and Clan Donald had the largest clan gathering of the Games. The newest member of Clan Donald MidSouth, Dena Shoemaker, hosted a Celtic Society of West Tennessee tent directly across from the Clan Donald tent. So we had plenty of time to visit back and forth. Dena also marched with the Clan Donald during the Parade of Tartans. Clan Donald outnumbered every other clan and society there. Our crowd included John Scarbrough, Carol and Karl Riley, Robin and Ted Summerall, Julie Midkiff and Jeff, Dena Shoemaker, Win MacLennan, Renee Sanderson, and of course Donna and Robert Worden. The tent stayed very busy with visitors asking about possible family ties. While we gave out at least seven applications for membership, none were turned in during the day of the Games. We still have high hopes on at least three of these. There were several changes in the Games this year with even more proposed for next year. A children’s Highland Games was held with medals for the winners. Friday evening the Ceilidh was held at Murray Country Club and Carol and Karl Riley joined Robert and Donna Worden for this fun evening. Saturday evening Clan Donald filled up a row during the Albannach concert. Sunday morning during the Kirkin of the Tartans, Donna Worden presented the tartans for blessing and Robert played the bodhran during the offering and read the 23rd Psalm in broad Scot during the service.
